BACKGROUND OF ASJD SIERRA LEONE
The Advocates for Social Justice & Development Sierra Leone (ASJD-SL), which was formerly Advocates for Vulnerable Aid (AVA) was established as a community-based organization of indigenous volunteers that squarely focus on programmes that enhance the development of the vulnerable in most deprived communities around post-war Sierra Leone. Since its establishment in 2002, the ASJD has been a civic society activist and firebrand much preoccupied with the implementation of tangible projects in key are-as that border on advocacy for good governance and human rights against social injustice, human capacity development for the under-privileged and agriculture for food security in the Kono District. Engaging the media as a vibrant tool, it has ASJD OFFICE IN KOIDU CITY, KONO DISTRICT defended the rights of the disadvantaged and socially marginalized across the District. It has provided technovocational and entrepreneurial skills training for the socially disoriented youths and the vulnerable women including widows/ single parents and battered wives. Between 2002 and 2014, the organization had implemented various projects on Improved Community Alert System through active case finding on Ebola;Human and Social Development; Youth Empowerment and Employment support; Education For All (EFA) & Education For Change (EFC); Livelihood Enhancement and Assets Development (LEAD); Child Protection (support Teenage mothers, child miners, Street children and sponsorship scheme to children in marginalized communities.) etc. The programmatic activities of the organization have a significant and meaningful impact on lives in communities it had operated over a decade or so; and which success story provokes the need for the broadening of horizon in the context programme, transformation into a local Non-Governmental organization.
WHERE WE WORK
Given that human rights issues exist throughout Kono District, we therefore operate in nine chiefdoms out of the fourteen chiefdoms at present namely: Gbense, Tankoro, Nimikoro, Nimiyama, Gorama Kono, Lei, Soa, Gbaneh and Kamara chiefdoms with plans to spread to new chiefdoms once funds are available.

WHO WE ARE
Established as a Community Based Organization (CBO) in 2002, Advocates for Social Justice and Development Sierra Leone (ASJD-SL) then known as Advocates for Vulnerable Aid (AVA) is a non-partisan and non-profit making Civil Society Organisation (CSO) that is legally registered with the Sierra Leone Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (SLANGO) and Ministries, Departments and Agencies
We have a five member Board that meets quarterly and provides technical oversight, advice and overall policy direction to Management and staff. Programs and projects are coordinated and implemented by a team of eight staff members and four volunteers (12 in All) being headed by the Executive Director. Our day to day decision making is through consultations in a participatory way that promotes effective team building.Besides we have a finance and administrative policy that shows how our finances are managed and disbursed for programme work. Our gender policy protects the dignity of our staff especially women and girls
